America’s Beverage giant Coca-Cola and McDonald’s on Friday called on FIFA president Sepp Blatter to resign. The calls follow the news from last week that Swiss prosecutors are investigating Blatter for “criminal mismanagement” and “misappropriation”.
Coca-Cola and McDonald’s are two of the largest sponsors of the FIFA World Cup.
Coca-Cola’s statement follows:
For the benefit of the game, The Coca-Cola Company is calling for FIFA President Joseph Blatter to step down immediately so that a credible and sustainable reform process can begin in earnest. Every day that passes, the image and reputation of FIFA continues to tarnish. FIFA needs comprehensive and urgent reform, and that can only be accomplished through a truly independent approach.
According to Reuters, McDonald’s has joined Coke in calling for Blatter to resign:
