Shia Muslim Group refutes Army claim of attack on General Buratai





Col. Sani Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations said that some suspected members of Shia Muslim religious group attempted an attack on the convoy of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai in Zaria on Saturday.

But the religious group has refuted the claim describing it as a shame.

In a statement made available to the Newsmen in Abuja, Col. Usman alleged that the group struck in the afternoon when the COAS went to pay homage to the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris.

He said that the COAS also went to Zaria to attend the passing out parade of 73 Regular Recruits intake of Nigerian Army Depot, Zaria.

He said in the statement that the members of the group, wielding dangerous weapons, obstructed the main road with stones and tyres.

He said further that the members threw stones and dangerous objects at the convoy of the COAS, noting that COAS was not hurt.
