The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Borno, on Monday urged the state government to speedily pay the death benefits of teachers killed by Boko Haram.

The Chairman of the union, Malam Bulama Abiso, made the appeal in an interview in Maiduguri.

He said that no fewer than 380 teachers were killed while about 33, 000 others had been displaced from their habitat by insurgency.

The chairman said the payment of the benefits would assist families of the affected teachers, who were experiencing serious hardship.

Abiso also canvassed the establishment of insurance cover for teachers in private and public schools in the state in order to boost their morale for higher productivity.
