The process of northenisation of key security positions by President Muhammadu Buhari has ostensibly started with the removal of Ita Ekpenyong as the Director-General of the Department of State Services and his replacement with Lawal Daura, who is from Daura, Buhari’s home town.
According to a Security Consultant who spoke to ionigeria.com by telephone on the basis of anonymity, “this is the beginning of the expected northernisation of all key positions in the security services and the military”
Continuing, he said “look back to when Buhari, Babangida and Abacha were Heads of State, there were some key positions in the military and security agencies that were reserved exclusively for individuals from the northern part of the country such as the Chief of Army Staff, the DG of NSO later SSS, the National Security Adviser etc.
