Supremacy battle between Buhari’s security aides as CSO issues counter directive

Sequel to the directive by the Aide-De-Camp to the President Muhammadu Buhari, Lt.-Col. Lawal Abubakar that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) should no longer give the President close body protection, the Chief Security Officer to the President, Mr. Abdulrahman Mani has issued a counter directive nullifying the order.

The CSO’s a memo instructive operatives of DSS to disregard the order from the Aide-De-Camp describing it as a misrepresentation of the President’s directive.

It should be recalled that in ionigeria.com earlier story, a legal expert Mr. Peter Egbegi and a Security Consultant, Mike Ejiofor condemned the action of the ADC. They contended that close body protection of top government functionaries including the President was the statutory responsibility of the DSS.

The ADC in his memo had directed personnel of the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police to take over the DSS officials’ duties of providing “close/immediate protection” for the President with immediate effect.

But in his June 26, 2015, memo, the CSO directed the DSS operatives to ignore the ADC’s order, saying the duties being performed by the DSS personnel in the Presidential villa were backed by relevant statutes and gazetted instruments.
