Professor Attahiru Jega is stepping down on Tuesday as INEC boss with seemingly an unblemished reputation but investigations by ionigeria.com revealed that he is leaving behind a workforce divided along the nation’s ethnic and regional fault lines largely because of what some of his colleagues have termed “sectional bias in recruitment and promotion of staff
As Professor Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and six National Commissioners step down on Tuesday after completion of their tenure, there is serious disquiet in the Commission as some members of staff are accusing the ongoing INEC boss of promoting sectionalism in staff recruitment and elevations.
Some of the aggrieved staff, according to reliable sources within the Commission are already contemplating petitioning the Federal Characters Commission over the obvious lopsidedness in staff promotions especially at the directorate levels.
Investigations by ionigeria.com revealed that since 2011 Professor Jega refused to elevate members of staff from some states especially the South-South region to the level of Director/Administrative Secretaries while workers from his own section of the country have benefited from several promotions.
