Economic Activities Grinded To A Halt in Nigeria for the Second Day

The protest over soaring cost of petrol occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy entered it's second day today. While many Nigerians took to the street to vent their anger over the refusal of the Federal Government to yield to their request to rescind the decision, others stalled at home. In Lagos, the commercial centre of the country, economic activities were for a second day grinded to a halt. Banks, government and most private sectors were shut. Commercial vehicles were largely off the roads. Angry youths made bonfire on Ikorodu road which has become the headquarters of the protests and some streets on Ikoyi. Unlike yesterday, there hasn't been any report of killing of protesters by law enforcement agencies. It would be recalled that about ten protesters were killed in the first day of the protest. The protest is expected to continue tomorrow as the Federal government has not shown any sign to accede to the request of millions of Nigerians who are feeling the pains of the soaring cost of living.
